Your Weekly Dose for Sept. 15-21
I came across this video of a group of folks using post-it notes as slinkies. Incredibly impressive (and fun!) if you ask me.
Your Weekly Dose for Aug. 24 - 31
Watch this TED.com talk on how photography connects us. As a photographer, I aspire to at some point take photographs that depict beauty and truth as well as the ones shown during the talk.
Get out and VOTE today!
We're interested to hear your thoughts on the candidates and ballot items for this year's election. There have been some blogs in the past couple of weeks touching on this subject, but with the election currently underway, we thought we'd refresh things and get a discussion going. We may even print some of your responses in this week's issue of the Sun. So who or what should (or shouldn't) your neighbors vote for? Why/why not? (This applies to all the candidates for all positions, and all ballot items. And remember...this is just healthy discussion, not a Friars Club Roast or anything.) Related: 4 comments
County Commission Candidate Profiles
With the primary election coming up fast (and with early voting already in progress) I just thought I'd remind everyone The Sun did a feature piece (July 5, 2008) on all eight County Commission candidates. You can view it HERE. Just click on the photo of each candidate to see their party affiliation, bio/background info and answers to the two following questions: What is the most important issue in the county? and What separates you from your opponent? After reviewing each candidate, and doing research on your own, make sure to GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!
Your Weekly Dose
Many of you may have noticed that our Blogs page is no longer weighted down with random internet videos posted on a daily basis. The Daily Dose we used to do was an experiment, and one I've learned from. Instead of sharing a video with you every day, I'm going to start a Weekly Dose. Our Blog paged has been filled with great posts from you, our readers, a lot recently, and I don't want to take away from that. I would like to offer each of you posters and readers a small break in the hectic world of St. Johns Sun blogging. I encourage you to continue posting and responding, but to also check the Weekly Dose to just check in with interesting things happening around the world you won't see on any other news outlet. These are things I find interesting and cool and think are worth sharing.
Liberty Pines Open House
It’s finally time to open the doors! On Tuesday, August 5th, the Liberty Pines Academy Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will be hosting a “School warming” Open House for all families, complete with a “Follow the Wolf Track Tour,” and a brief presentation by the PTO, followed by coffee and dessert. This night marks the highly anticipated opening of Liberty Pines Academy, the first ever K-8 School to be built in this county. Driving down Russell Sampson to see the progress of the new school has become a regular part of many families’ weekly routine, and now the school community, which currently consists of approximately 450 families in addition to the faculty and staff, will be able view the interior as well.
