NAME SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO EAT!

Last year we discovered "GAYA", a Japanese Steakhouse on CR 210 behind the McDonalds.

After our first dining experience there it became our newest "favorite" place to dine out. After a year of enjoying the food, the service, the friendly, smiling faces, we have discovered another PLUS to GAYA! We often check the results of local eateries' Health Department Inspections. GAYA has had a 100% CLEAN, ZERO VIOLATION, record since they opened! In today's world, THAT is a reassuring PLUS to any favorite place to eat!

On a different place: Mandarin Wok in Green Cove Springs. We used to eat there all the time. We usually get take-out and go eat by the pier in GCS or take it home. Just the other day we stopped for 2 chicken lo mein lunches and a couple of egg rolls. When we got home we started to chow down while watching some TV. The wife was about to put a morsel in her mouth and noticed something "not right". The mushroom piece she had on her fork HAD LEGS!!! eewwwwwwww!!! There was a damned ROACH cooked in the meal! After managing not to up chuck, we threw both meals away. Since she had never bothered before, she checked out the Mandarin Wok online for health code violations:

THEY HAD 26 current and a LONG HISTORY of multiple violations, serious ones too! Needless to say, the MANDARIN WOK is OFF our list of places to eat or recommend. The food IS good, but apparently the old building they are in is so infested with critters that even the best efforts are insufficient to keep them out of the food. We wonder how they manage not to be shut down by the health department!

Caps on Villano.  I love to watch the sunset on the intracostal waterway, but if I want to have good food to go with it, then I go  to Caps.  My other favorite is The Creekside in Saint Augustine, they make the best fish on the plank....With respect of their inspections by the health department, I don't know how well they fare, but then again, I just got back from a trip to Asia, and if I didn't get sick there, there is no way I'll get sick here.

Correction: Mandarin Wok has 16, not 26, violations on their last inspection.

After the roach incident, they are off of our places to eat...period!

St Augustine: O'Steen's Shrimp, just across the Bridge of Lions on the right, next to the Antique store. No competition: The BEST shrimp you'll ever eat!!!
