The BCC has voted to not only put the FAILED charter back on the Nov 4th ballot but NOW they have voted to spend $35,000 of OUR TAX MONEY to "educate" us ignorant citizens to our error in voting it down!
INCREDIBLE!!! So much for the "system"! We're offered something, we turn it down by a HUGE MARGIN, and our elected officials CONTINUE to try and RAM IT DOWN OUR THROATS!!!
BRAVO!!! To Cyndi Stevenson for dessenting on this uncalled for expediture of OUR TAX MONEY! This initiative, IMHO, is a classic case of "elitism" or "autocratic" action by 3 of our 5 county commissioners. A Charter government MAY be in the best interest of St Johns County, JUST NOT THIS PARTICULAR CHARTER AS WRITTEN! Mr. McGuire made several observations about this charter that have been ignored by the powers that be pushing this thing.
I voted NO to it once and I'll vote NO to it again. EVERYONE I have spoken to, and there are MANY, will also vote NO...again. The $35,000 is a WASTE of OUR TAX MONEY! It is OURS, NOT the BCC's to waste. There are many issues that the $35,000 could address and be much more helpful to the citizens instead of an "educational" direct mail flyer. The thought of the attempt to "educate" the county residents is insulting and condecending to say the least.
The THREE of you that voted for this WASTE should be ASHAMED of yourselves!
The people that DID vote for the charter this last time around but weren't absolutely certain what all it contained, should, IF FOR NO OTHER REASON, than the fact that "someone, somewhere" behind the scenes is pushing this thing SO HARD as to influence 3 of 5 commissioners to place it back on the ballot, AND spend $35,000 of OUR TAX MONEY to "educate" us ignorant voters...should VOTE NO this time around!!!
I would HOPE that most of our county residents are "educated" enough to know that they are smelling a DEAD FISH somewhere!!! The maximum effort to get the Charter passed should tell enough of you that there is much, much more going on here than we're being told!
