Today, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Blood Alliance is urging all eligible blood donors to donate the gift of life for USA WEEKEND’s Make a Difference Day, held each year on the fourth Saturday of October. There are three locations available today: The Blood Center, 110 Health Park Blvd., St. Augustine, Charlie T’s Truck Stop, 10105 U.S. Highway 1 South, and Mill Creek Elementary School’s Fall Festival. 3750 International Golf Parkway. Oct. 27, 2 p.m. The Five Points of Life bike ride will stop in St. Augustine at the Main Branch Library, 1960 N. Ponce de Leon Blvd. St. Augustine resident Jim Davidson will speak about his experiences with two of the points: organ and blood donation. The bike ride, sponsored by The Blood Alliance, is to raise awareness about the five ways to share life. Oct. 28, the Creekside Knights Fall Golf Tournament will be held at the Champions Club in Julington Creek Plantation. It is a Captains Choice format with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Entry fee is $100 per player and includes 18 holes of golf, greens fee, cart, hot dog and picnic dinner served after the tournament, drink tickets and more. Nov. 3, TCBY located at 2750 Race Track Road is raising funds to help a local Julington Creek Plantation family struck by tragedy. All proceeds from the day’s sales will be donated to the Honeyman family to help rebuild their home after a fire. From 3-7 p.m. there will be a bounce house on site donated by Parties N Motion. Nov. 7, 5-9 p.m. Butterfield Garage Art Gallery hosts the opening of Angelika S. Luginbuhl’s inaugural exhibit of “Just Cats” during the First Friday Artwalk. Luginbuhl’s handmade pastels, oil paintings, pencil drawings and watercolors depict a wide variety of domestic and wild cats in a myriad of poses including abstract, whimsical and serious studies. helping hands
The Helping Hands of St. Johns County, a volunteer organization, dedicated to helping others in the community through small projects monthly, recently donated 55 Christmas trees to the Bayview Nursing Home and Hospice of St. Augustine. The members donated and decorated small trees that will be used for residents’ rooms and homes. The tree trimming party was just one of the many projects that the women have completed in the last few months. In October, they filled 100 Trick or Treat Bags for the children at the Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless. The November project is Thanksgiving dinners that will be given through Christ’s Cupboard at the Celebration Lutheran Church on Roberts Road. The next meeting will be at 11 a.m., Nov. 21 at the Peoples Bank on County Road 210. Anyone wishing to donate non-perishable food items for the Thanksgiving Dinner Boxes or frozen turkeys may contact jacqphil@aol.com.

logo contest
During the month of October, PACT (Prevent, Act, Change, Together) Teens is holding a logo contest open to young artists in grades 6-8. PACT Teens known as DDT21 wants its own identity that will be recognized in the community as they work to educate teens about underage drinking. Contestants must create a logo design following contest guidelines.
- Contestants must be enrolled in middle school in St. Johns County
- Entries must be submitted as an e-mail attachment.
- Entries must contain the contestant’s name, address and telephone number in the body of the e-mail.
- Entries will be judged on the strength of the message against underage drinking, originality, relevance to youth and the artwork’s ability to be enlarged or reduced while maintaining its integrity.
Entries become the property of DDT21 and will not be returned to contestants. Submissions must be received by Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. E-mail entries to lisa@pactprevention.org. Dec. 7, noon to 5 p.m. The Garden Club of St. Augustine invites you to the 40th Annual Christmas Tour of Homes, Grand Illumination, Christmas Parade and British Night Watch during this weekend. This year’s tour will showcase private homes around Maria Sanchez Lake and the bay in the historic area. These beautiful homes were built in 1873, 1886, 1905, the 1920s and more recent years. Your ticket will include a delightful tea and Boutique at the coastal Community Center. This year the Garden Club awarded three college scholarships, sent six children and gifts to Camp Wekive and gave away 1500 trees for Arbor Day. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
