Newcomers Network of St. Johns County invites newcomers to join. The group meets from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at The Coastal Community Center, 180 Marine St., St. Augustine Residents who are new to the area in the last three years or those who have experienced a lifestyle change are encouraged to attend.
The evening, sponsored by Mercedes Homes, will feature a short program with guest speakers, complimentary beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres.

vic digenti to speak at senior center
The Players Community Senior Center at 175 Landrum Lane in Ponte Vedra Beach will host author Vic DeGenti at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10.
After 35 years in public broadcasting working as a producer, director, fundraiser and producer of the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Vic DiGenti turned to his first love—writing. Finding inspiration in his household of feline critters, he wrote two adventure/fantasies with a feline protagonist —the Windrusher novels. His unpublished manuscript, Matanzas Bay, a mystery/suspense novel set in St. Augustine, recently won the 2007 Josiah W. Bancroft Sr. novel competition.

kids saltwater fishing workshop
The Friends of Washington Oaks Gardens State Park will offer kids saltwater fishing workshops at the park. A Florida Park Ranger will illustrate techniques anglers use to catch fish and the importance of conservation and safety. Participants will learn to identify saltwater fish species commonly caught in this area, and learn how to use a fishing rod and reel.
All fishing gear will be furnished for each participant. The workshop is open to ages 8-15 years old and the fee is $20 per workshop, per participant.
