Rezoning Schools Again For K-8Our new 210 Community K-8 School is on its way for next year 2008-09 school year. I think everyone is pretty happy with the thoughts of relieving overcrowding at Timberlin Creek Elementary and Switzerland Point Middle School. I’m sure the new school will be overcrowded the day it opens its doors too. But, okay. That’s another issue. One would think the rezoning process should be pretty easy. The new school will be located approximately 6 miles east of Timberlin Creek and 11 miles east of Switzerland Point. The new school will be around Russell Sampson and 2209. Once the numbers are crunched it should basically be families on the east end of 210, nearest to Russell Sampson Road would attend the new school. You know the ones closer to Timberlin Creek will stay there and Switzerland Point and the others further away would attend the new school. Does anyone remember the rezoning and rezoning debates regarding Timberlin Creek, back in 2005? That was crazy. There was a community that did not want to leave Timberlin Creek, but wanted everyone else out. I guess they thought it was their school. Will they now want to stay again or move to the new school? What about the laptop program? It worked out, finally for awhile. The 210 Community seems like it tries to come together and be that wonderful community. But, it’s a battle. Everyone has an agenda, even our local area activist; with regards to school politics will be pushing her interest items. Just wait for the Town Hall Rezoning Meeting on September 17. Our School Board Reps are working to keep our community happy, of course. I have met wonderful people from all the housing areas on 210. Great families involved in the schools. But where will the lines be drawn again, north against the south, east and west? Who knows? Things that don’t seem to make any sense sometimes happen, when it comes to rezoning. With all that said the new K-8 sounds really great for our school district and 210. Related: Josy's blog | login or register to post comments | printer friendly version | Tags: schools
