TASERS FOR EVERYONE!

Someone had the great idea to make the hand taser available for everyone! Like if there is not enough violence on the streets now they are going to make this device available not only to regular people like you and me, but also to criminals and even teens!

What make these people believe that the existent crime will be less if you carry a taser (more like a stun gun) with you? The true is that although this device was created to subdue criminals to law enforcement, they are also a "knife of double blade" which means that if it falls in the wrong hands it could cause serious injuries to others depending on the body area where they are applied (head, eyes, genitals). And I am not a doctor but it doesn't take a genius to figure that out either!

Hopefully along with these tasers, there will be some rules and limits to their use as well. Common sense is definitively required to use these devices and proof of age when purchasing them, should be absolutely necessary.

Just imagine the teens using them on their classmates in school, with their siblings, the granny and even the cat! This will be a terrible idea if someone doesn't take control of their distribution. In the other hand if you are so close to your attacker that you can apply the taser on him (her) then you better stun and run or you might be next if he (she) takes possession of the device against you. As in the case of the Pepper Spray, not everyone is affected by the taser. I have seen criminals swallow the gas like candy and take the electric discharge from the taser and keep on going!

Having one in your possession will probably make you feel safe, but in reality you still as vulnerable as before and on top of that, you might be liable if serious injuries occur to your attacker. We are in the "Human Rights" world and believe or not there are criminals that have the nerve to start a law- suit against their victims if they get hurt.

This is not to discourage you to get a taser (if they finally are sold to the public) is to warn you and to let you know the good, the bad and the ugly that comes along with this popular and so criticized artifact.

The newer tazers that shoot electrodes like a dart gun are the ones that I assume you speak of.

From what I understand, any such device is considered a "weapon" and hence would not be legally allowed in government buildings, including schools, and their use would be specified for self protection only the same as with a firearm and all the liabilities that entails.

Regular "stun guns" as they are referred to, have been available for a couple of decades now. I haven't noticed any abuses that were deemed news worthy enough to make the local nor national news. I'm certain if it was a prevelant problem that it would make the news. Wouldn't you think?

Frankly, I dislike stun guns of any flavor. I prefer a standard firearm for self protection and the protection of my family. I know all too well what the law states is the necessary perameters to use deadly force on another human being. Owning a firearm, or a tazer for that matter, isn't a wise idea for ANYONE unless they have the knowledge of how and when to use it AND the COURAGE to do so! Without all 3 of those components, the possession of any device or firearm provides little "protection" to a potential victim and does provide an attacker with an additional weapon or the incentive to do even more harm than originally intended.

Just my two cents worth...ok?Smile
