Mid-Season football report (Bartram Trail)As we head toward the final quarter of the high school football season we turn our attention to how every St. Johns County team is faring and their possibilities of playing in the postseason. Bartram Trail Bears Overall Record: (4-3) District Record: (1-0) Scoop: At one game over five hundred, one might be a little concerned about the Bears season so far, not head coach Daryl Sutherland, keep in mind all three losses are to state ranked and playoff bound teams (3A St. Augustine, 6A Lake Brantley and 2A Madison County). Two of the three losses the Bears were in the game in the closing minutes including a one point overtime loss to Lake Brantley. No need to panic, despite the sub-par record, the Bears are still on track to obtain several of their goals: winning districts and getting home field advantage. This week: Ed White (5-2, 0-1) comes to Julington Creek to take on the Bears in a key District 2-5A game not to mention for homecoming. The Commanders feature tailback Leon Jackson, athlete Antwan Randal El, quarterback Aaron Seigler and a ground game that amassed 250 yards last week against Jackson. Bartram Trail leads the series 2-0 winning a pair of close games the last two years, 14-12 in 2005 and 12-7 last season. White trailed Fletcher 21-3 at the half last Monday before rallying for two scores and holding the Senators to only a field goal in the second half to fall 24-17. Postseason: A win over White as expected would clinch at least at worse a spot in a district tiebreaker shootout and keep the Bears at the top of the district standings. A loss could create a potential log jam in the district and a four team shootout.
