Budget, appointments top commission agenda

On Tuesday, July 10, St. Johns County commissioners are expected to hear Director of Management and Budget Doug Timms’ presentation of the 2008 recommended budget, make appointments to several boards and agencies, and receive a presentation on charter government in other Florida counties.



Mosquito Control to talk taxes

At its meeting Thursday, the Anastasia Mosquito Control District board is expected to approve a budget, adopt a tentative millage rate for next year, and discuss a bid for the design and construction of a new facility on land the district purchased off Florida 16 near Interstate 95.

1: Approval of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services work plan budget.
2: Lease renewal of the district facility in Hastings.
3: Continuing the rezoning process on the Florida 16 property.
4: Creation of a grant-funded biologist position.
5: Approval of the new account’s job description as “Administrative Assistant.”.

St. Johns County commissioners saved $1 million on a proposed jail farm, approved a big sign, voted yes on a Comprehensive Plan amendment, and denied a property owner’s appeal Tuesday during their regular meeting.

New county administrator brings plenty to the job

St. Johns County commissioners picked a new county administrator from Texas who is about as Floridian as it gets.

And it looks like solid fit for one of the nation’s fastest growing counties.

Michael Wanchick grew up in Clearwater. He holds bachelors and masters degrees from the University of South Florida in Tampa. And he spent 22 years of his working life in Broward and Pinellas counties dealing with growth management issues.
