St. Johns man gives up Julington Creek home as part of porn sentence
A Julington Creek Plantation man has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography by computer. He also has to forfeit his home and pay restitution. Investigators raided the home of Darrell Mark Krause last year and seized his computer and three external hard disk drives that contained 17,100 digital photos and 1,400 videos depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. U.S. District Judge Henry Lee Adams Jr. this week sentenced Krause, 42, to the prison term to be followed by 10 years of supervised release. The St. Johns County Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program had its second public meeting at Fruit Cove Middle School last night, March 6 at 7 p.m. Over 50 Julington Creek residents attended the meeting, which intended to propose and discuss possible solutions to the speeding problem throughout the Julington Creek neighborhood. -The first proposed solution involved intersection improvements around the neighborhood, consisting of pavement markings and striped stop bars, speed feedback signs and 6” yellow and white edge lines. -The second solution proposed installing an approximated 11 speed humps on numerous roads in the Julington Creek area. The humps would be 22 feet long, and could reduce overall speeds anywhere from five to nine miles per hour. It was mentioned that these humps could possibly cause some drainage issues. Julington Creek Plantation home-grown pot operation shut down
A joint investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Investigations Unit ended with the seizure of 117 marijuana plants Wednesday night and the arrest of a Julington Creek Plantation resident. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Chuck Mulligan says a month-long investigation lead officers to a home in the 200 block of Hawthorn Hedge Lane, the site of the growing operation. Officers reported they could smell a distinct odor of marijuana coming from the house as they approached, and that when they contacted the resident, Pinto Nelson Duque, 34, he admitted he was growing marijuana. Duque was arrested and charged with Cultivation of Marijuana and taken to the St. Johns County Jail. Mulligan says the seized drugs have an estimated value of $117,000, and that investigators also seized $5,000 worth of chemicals, fertilizers and growing equipment. Indoor pot cultivation is on the increase, Mulligan said, because better enforcement and improved investigative techniques are driving pot growers indoors. He cites the use of law enforcement aircraft and coordination with the FDLE and the Florida National Guard as a major factor in the reduction of outdoor marijuana cultivation.
